Port Lincoln is a thriving and industrious
capital of the Eyre Peninsula region. It is the
home of Australia's largest fishing fleet and
hosts a thriving aquaculture industry.
Port Lincoln's kingfish, abalone, mussels,
oysters and the prized Blue Fin Tuna
(occasionally worth over $40,000 a ton to
sashimi hungry Japanese) are famous the
world over. |

First sighted by Europeans in 1802,
Captain Matthew Flinders named much of the features in the area after places from his home country of Lincolnshire.
Once considered an ideal location for the capital of the fledgling state of South Australia, tourism is growing rapidly in the area thanks to a stunning coastline of sheltered bays and clear blue seas.
With all of this Port Lincoln remains surprisingly unpretentious and refreshingly laid back.
